Upcoming Movie Flying Jatt Director Remo DSouza Exclusive Interview:Remo D’Souza is set for his third directed upcoming movie Flying Jatt starring Tiger Shroff. Remo D’Souza talks about his lead actors, choreography and the importance of godfathers in Bollywood.
In an exclusive interview with indianexpress.com, Remo talks about his latest release A Flying Jatt, working with Tiger Shroff and the Amrita Singh.
How did A Flying Jatt happen?
I had the story with me ever since I was a choreographer. I finally bounced it off to Tiger Shroff even before he had entered the industry. We were gym buddies. He liked it and we were on. We thought this would be his first film but then I got busy with ABCD and he got busy with Heropanti and Baaghi.
What is the movie all about?
It’s the story of a simple superhero who is young and human. He derives the superpowers accidentally. There is also a strong mother-son bond that we have showcased in the film. There is also a message about global warming and protecting our environment that we have touched upon through the film.
Why did you cast Amrita Singh as Tiger’s mother?
Amrita Singh was the first name that came to my mind and I couldn’t think of anyone else. Luckily when I narrated the script to her, she liked it and said yes.I don’t know what I would have done had she said no. She is the purest soul I have ever come across. She radiates so much of positive energy. When she comes on sets, the mood is all fun and happy.

How was her bonding with Tiger?
She knew Tiger when he was about seven or eight. Amrita did a few films with Jackie Shroff (Tiger’s father) and Tiger used to come on sets along with Jackie. So Amrita narrated stories to Tiger about how he used come and roam about on the sets in his jeans and all. Right from the very first day, a bond was formed.
Was Jacqueline always your first choice as Tiger’s leading lady? If so, why?
Yes. Jacqueline and Tiger have never been paired before. There were people who said she might look old. But I said no, she can’t. She won’t because she is young. We then did a test shoot and it was evident that they looked cute and hot.
Who are these people who said Jacqueline would look old?
There were lot of people. You know the industry…
Was it easy getting Tiger and Jacqueline to kiss each other?
Yes. Both are professionals and quite hard working, There were absolutely no hassles.
Nathan Jones is an interesting choice. Why him?
I always wanted an intimidating villain opposite Tiger, someone who one would believe couldn’t be beaten easily. I had seen Nathan in Troy where his one-minute appearance was enough to create an impact. I contacted him and luckily he said yes.
What were the arrangements made to take care of his comfort considering that he is almost seven feet tall?
Right from his hotel room, bed, car, his chair on sets, his vanity van, everything was custom-made.
Any difference that you came across in his style of working as compared to Indian actors?
He is much more professional than a lot of Indian actors. From coming on time on sets, his commitment towards his work to doing whatever his director asks him to, he was a thorough professional.
Finally tell us how has your journey has been in Bollywood, from a choreographer to a director now?
It’s been a great journey. I would call it a roller-coaster ride. There were big downs and big ups. When I came down, no one took me seriously. Even after choreographing some big numbers, I didn’t qualify as the top choreographer. You need to have godfathers and big people to support you for others to take you seriously. But I never had any of those. It is now after doing TV shows and so much work that people have accepted me as a great choreographer. So I had to struggle too much and I am happy with my journey today though there is a lot more left now.

Sapna Bhavnani Controversial Interview against Salman Khan: In her recent interview with The Hindustan Times, the celebrity hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani spoke on several topics including her upcoming book Chapter One, reality show Bigg Boss, and the ever controversial,Salman Khan.
Why “Bhai” holds no importance in Sapna Bhavnani’s life:
“This man really misuses people and I don’t have to give him importance…especially in my book.”
Because the actor makes her feel ashamed as an Indian:
“It’s insulting to have an Indian man talk like that on an international platform. I am embarrassed to call myself an Indian when statements like these go out worldwide. I was very vocal about it on Twitter, and everywhere. I got a lot of flak for it, but flak or stalkers and trollers should not be the reason why you should stop voicing the truth.
“It’s (comments on Twitter) insane, if you read some of the crap that was written… you’d know. Before I started blocking them, I was reporting them to Twitter, my point is to get them off Twitter, but when twitter was also not taking necessary action, I had to block them, because I couldn’t let them affect my mental health. These guys are hired by the Khan and political parties… these people have zero followers, but everyday they come to slam you.”
And the threats go back in time to the days of her Bigg Boss stint:
“Actually a lot of people told me, I was warned that you shouldn’t talk about him like that because you could get killed, and I was like, ‘what!’ I had heard rumours, but I have been channelling this ‘no fear’ thing for the past four years and I am not going to let a monkey scare me. I have been through a gang rape, I know what it feels like, I am a surviving member… there is nothing worse you can do to me really.”
And while she courageously opened up about her gangrape, Sapna didn’t let that one tragedy define her life. In fact, she has decided to pen it in her memoir:
“I still don’t know, if I have the guts to talk about my rape, but I can start a new chapter one of my life once it (rape) is out of the system, so there will be a chapter on that too.

“Being strong doesn’t mean you can’t cry. Just because you are strong you can’t cry, you can’t heal… it’s a phase of healing, which you can’t have. That’s a wrong notion about being strong… they say you are a man you can’t cry, that’s not correct. And this strong woman image that I have, has been a curse in many ways. This is where I want to speak, this is the wrong notion of strength because people think if you are strong you can’t do this.”
As for Bigg Boss, it was an out-and-out “f***-all experience”:
“You have a male chauvinistic f***ing pig as a host of this f***ing show, that insults people, so people watch the show, and people worship him on the show because people want a job in one f his stupid f***-all movies where he dances like a monkey – that’s Bigg Boss in a nutshell.”
However, she is excited about her literary debut which will be published by HarperCollins:
“I wrote chapter one and it was so good I could not do chapter two.. isn’t that life? You are always trying to complete one thing in life and then you move on to the next. So this book is going to be about all the chapter ones in life, everything is a new beginning. People ask me if it is going to be non-fiction or fiction, but, ‘if you can’t tell, I am not telling’.”
